See it All with Opera Glasses
These opera glasses from Lemaire Paris date to the late 1800s Victorian era and are made of brass and mother of pearl ($195; Showcase 520). They embody history – Jacques Lemaire began making opera glasses in 1847 after he created a center wheel that could focus two telescopes simultaneously. These opera glasses, also called “theater binoculars,” have long been used at sporting events like horse racing when someone needs to see action from a distance.
Unlike some Victorian wares, opera glasses are still practical today when one goes to the theater, opera, or horse racing. Using opera glasses, a parent can see a child performing in the band or theater more closely.
A Bracelet for Every Occasion
This iconic style of woven link bracelet in 14-karat yellow gold is a classic ($2,800; Showcase 520). This polished design is understated and elegant, trimmed with four cabochon-cut blue sapphires.
It’s a Girl’s Best Friend
Dating to the early 20th century, this platinum ring is topped by a 1.63-carat old European cut diamond in a near-colorless I-J rating ($8,525; Showcase 520). Primarily cut from 1890 to 1930, old European diamonds were especially common during the Art Deco period. They predated the modern round brilliant-cut diamond, now the most popular diamond shape. The ring is flanked by diamonds along the sides that total .20 carats.
A Pair for the Cat Lover
This pair of cats resting on pillows is Midcentury Modern style at its finest ($80 each; Boot B-306). By Andrea by Sadek, these figurines feature hand-painted details on their glossy finish. These elegant figurines would be a wonderful gift for someone who loves cats.
