Cocktail Hour at GasLamp Antiques
Streamers of HBO’s “Gilded Age” program have seen a cocktail being shared among the wealthy of 1880s New York City. Cocktail hours are also shared among the smart set on the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Mad Men,” both set in the swinging ’60s. The proper cocktail attire isn’t all that’s shaken and stirred at such get-togethers – there are plenty of tabletop accoutrements, too, and these can be easily found at the two GasLamp stores.
GET GILDED
This handy three-piece set, a tantalus, is the kind that might be seen on the HBO Max program “Gilded Age.” In that rarified world, men toast to one another in Victorian Era offices complete with a bar set like this one ($395; Booth T-384). In that mood, this tantalus is designed with a wooden frame and features three sparkling decanters with gilt and porcelain labels that distinguish them as scotch, brandy, and bourbon. This tantalus would make a chic addition to any home bar.
GO FOR MID-CENTURY CHIC
Clear vinyl, also known as Lucite, was the epitome of chic from the 1940s to the 1960s, and this Lucite bar set embodies the trend ($299; Booth T-396). With a tray-like case, this grouping of four glass decanters includes bottles for whiskey, scotch, brandy and bourbon.
USE A LAZY SUSAN
This 1950s Lazy Susan is crafted from pale blue plastic, featuring a paint-dotted design ($40; Booth T-371). The Jackson Pollack-esque nature of this serving piece makes it all the more stylish.
GET GLOWING
Candles can serve as a cozy backdrop to cocktail hour. A wide selection is found at Cue Candles, Booth T-272 ($39). Nature-oriented scents include Lavender Eucalyptus, Balsam Mahogany and Salted Grapefruit.
