Q: WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THE ANTIQUES YOU HAVE EVER HAD, OR EVEN A COMPELLING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT AN ANTIQUE YOU DON’T OWN?
A: I have a Philco Model A-801 chairside radio table that was made during WWII. It is wood, with a thin slot to accommodate a radio made for Chrsyler, Dodge, Plymouth and DeSoto cars that would have been manufactured during the war. However, because of the war effort, cars were not being manufactured, so that tanks and other equipment could be made instead. The company was then left with radios, but no cars to put them in. Some clever marketing person decided they should adapt the radios for household use by converting them to 115V electricity and putting them into a nice piece of furniture!
Q: WHAT ANTIQUE TREND DO YOU LOVE RIGHT NOW?
A: Art Deco.
Q: WHAT GENRE OF ANTIQUES DO YOU HAVE AS A COLLECTION? IS THERE A GENRE OF ANTIQUES OR COLLECTIBLES YOU WOULD LIKE TO COLLECT IN THE FUTURE?
A: I am a collector of Noritake fancy ware and also butterfly wing jewelry.
Q: WHAT ANTIQUE ERA DO YOU NOT LIKE?
A: I am not a fan of primitives or Early American.
Q: ARE ANTIQUES A GOOD INVESTMENT? WHY OR WHY NOT?
A: Judging from the Noritake pieces I have collected over the years, the prices have gone up tremendously, even though there are still some "bargains" to be found. My personal philosophy is that if you like a piece and can afford it, you should buy it. If you get joy from using or seeing it, that is what counts, and if the price goes up over time, so much the better!
Q: HAVE YOU EVER RECYCLED OR "UPCYCLED" AN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE ITEM?
A: I have two old table radios that I use as end tables.
