Booth # B2010
Q: IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WHAT ANTIQUE OR COLLECTIBLE WOULD YOU BUY IMMEDIATELY?
A: The first thing that comes to mind is Marilyn Monroe's dress from "The Seven Year Itch," the one she wears over the subway grate. (Editor's note: The dress sold at auction for a whopping $5.6 million last summer).
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST GORGEOUS ANTIQUE YOU EVER SAW, IN A PRIVATE COLLECTION, OR EVEN A MUSEUM?
A: It's usually the latest thing I've seen that I like the best; it changes.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THE ANTIQUES YOU HAVE EVER HAD, OR EVEN A COMPELLING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT AN ANTIQUE YOU DON’T OWN?
A: I bought some drive-in movie theater speakers from the '50s and the guy said they came from a drive-in theater in Memphis that Elvis used to go to. I don't know if it's true or not.
Q: WHAT ANTIQUE TREND DO YOU LOVE RIGHT NOW?
A: I really like anything in the Mid-century Modern era, anything that looks like it would have come out of the "Dick Van Dyke Show," the house of Rob and Laura Petrie.
Q: WHAT GENRE OF ANTIQUES DO YOU HAVE AS A COLLECTION? IS THERE A GENRE OF ANTIQUES OR COLLECTIBLES YOU WOULD LIKE TO COLLECT IN THE FUTURE?
A: I don't really have any particular thing, I just get what I like. It's a mix of everything. Any time I see something I haven't had before, I try that. So I have some nice pieces and some quirky stuff.
Q: ARE ANTIQUES A GOOD INVESTMENT? WHY OR WHY NOT?
A: I think as long as you buy with your heart and your instincts, it's a good investment.
Q: HAVE YOU EVER RECYCLED OR "UPCYCLED" AN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE ITEM?
A: I have just recently started re-painting furniture. I went to a chalk painting class several weeks ago, so I started doing that with the Annie Sloan paints. I don't have that much experience with painting furniture, but with that, the paint works so well. Then you use this wax and it ends up looking great. I really do want to get into that, because the paint is like magic the way it turns out.
